This indicator shows the average number of years from birth a person can expect to live without requiring assistance with everyday activities.

The Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) is a comprehensive regional and global research program of disease burden that assesses mortality and disability from major diseases, injuries, and risk factors.  The burden of disease can be viewed as the gap between current health status and an ideal situation in which everyone lives into old age free of disease and disability.
