Provisioning ecosystem services

This indicator will show how much material benefit New Zealanders get from our natural well-functioning ecosystems. This includes ecosystems in forests, freshwater and marine environments, grasslands, and agricultural environments.

The material benefits are the products directly obtained from the ecosystems. For example, benefits could be:

  • food
  • fresh water
  • fibre

Many provisioning services are traded, and people can make their livelihoods from provisioning services.

This indicator is still to be developed.
